Common Name: Kennedia Coccinea Coral Creeper, Running Postman, Coral Vine. Scientific Name: Kennedia coccinea Physical Attributes: Showy climber, hanging vine or ground cover with masses of coral pink, orange to deep red flowers on erect stems which fan out in a dense cluster against thick soft green foliage. Uses: Ground cover. Climber. Life Cycle: Perennial Growing Height: 2 – 3m Attracts: Butterflies. Beneficial insects. When to Sow: Year round. Avoid hottest and coldest months. Sowing Depth: Surface sow Sowing Method: Place seed(s) in a container and pour in hot but not boiled water. Leave to soak overnight. Once swollen, the seed can then be sown, re-treat seeds that have not swollen. Sow seed on surface of a porous seed raising mix and as once watered it will lodge in the mix. Cover with seed raising mix to the depth of the seeds with, be careful not to bury the seed deeply. Place in a warm shaded or semi shaded position to avoid dying out. Keep warm and moist, avoid drying out or watering logging the growing mix. Position: Partially shaded Germination Time: 10 – 21 days @ 18-22°C Maintenance: Many native seeds are dormant and require specific conditions or pre-treatment for germination.
